Experience vs Things

I had to talk about this today because of two reasons

1. Watched the movie “Everest” which was a true story. I was soo glued to the movie that I was yelled at for not listening to the Mrs… Lol! :P

2. Remembered my friend Rajesh say the same to enjoy life by experience.

So lets see what I think about this topic.

I feel and I agree with what I recently read that the experiences are one of a kind life time stuff. Like First occasions are novel events and we tend to make more detailed and lasting memories of those first times rather than repeatedly doing them because we like it so it will be a mere task than an memory or experience. Like travelling around the world can happen once in a life and that will your life time memory. But if you keep doing it every 5 years it will become a holiday rather than a life time experience right ?

I believe in giving lasting memories to the people around me and I’m trying do practice it better as I grow older.

Lemme tell you couple of memorable (crazzy ) things I have done.

Women’s day :-

During the year 2003 women’s day… Nope I did not celebrate it, it happens to be one of my dearest friends Bday. Its the one and only Bakki (Vasudha Rao Pratoor). So the creative me devices a plan and puts it in action…. Bought a cake and kept it at my room, at exactly 11.50pm started walking the street with a cake in one hand and candles and matchbox in the other after a quick adventure escaping the street dogs and managing to keep the cake intact… At last I reach her house and slowly jump the compound wall, sat on the steps stuffed all the candles onto the cake and lit them up then I then realized that the candles were too many on that small cake, knocked on the door and the power went off the only light in that area was from the candle lit cake, Another couple of soft knocks and guess what!! Appa opened the door ( Her father I call him Appa) he is the Hitler kinds who didn’t smile much… (I realized it later that he is an awesome guy) he opened the door as they never get any visitors at that hour (probably he also thought it was a thief) and I was standing there with a lump in my throat because I didn’t expect him to be the one opening the door… I had to compose myself as the candles were in a hurry to melt soon and managed to say “Sorry Appa cut cake bday surprise” he left the door open and went inside without saying anything, thank god my partner in crime Vasakka (Vasavi who is the little sister) was studying came to my rescue and helped me to surprise Bakki in time before the candles gave up. Phew! One big adventure was over and everyone was happy. Even till today that was the “first time” I did something like that and I really hope she also remembers it as a first in lifetime memory. The best thing out of all this was that million dollar smile on her face :).

Christmas :-

Every year for the past 4 years I have started this ritual of giving surprise gifts to my elder daughter Ammulu during the Christmas time i.e from 20th of December to the 25th of December. So those were the days that the new corporate culture of playing secret Santa started and you were supposed to pic a chit with a colleagues name and give gifts during the time. As usual I was very involved in this activity  year on year and in 2011 my elder daughter one day asked me if I was packing the gifts for her…. I with a heavy heart said no it was for a office colleague. So she started asking all the questions she can from her “question bank” and I convinced her that if she also ties a star in the balcony and behaves as a very good girl then Santa Claus will leave a gift every night and she can take it in the morning. We go and shop a star of her choice every year and tie it in the balcony. I have the very important task of making sure I don’t repeat the gifts of last year and buy them and pack them in different and interesting gift wrappers and make sure I place them under the start every night. From last year my gifts have doubled as the Little Ammulu also joined the gang of expecting gifts even though she is super naughty and still says she is the best kid. I don’t know when these two kids will grow up and call this idea fake or stupid but as of now every year during this time I’m really happy to see that smile and excitement on their faces during the Christmas time when she gets a gift and thanks the star saying “Christmas Tatha”.

I too have a list of things to do like going on a road trip to Leh Ladak etc… so that I can collect these memories or experiences and you will definitely read it in the coming days… Or months…  Ok definitely years ;).

My theory about it might be silly but think about it…
